What is a rolled cargo event?

A roll happens when a shipment is reallocated to a new vessel from its originally scheduled sailing. The container will now arrive later, on a different vessel.

OpenTrack is constantly monitoring your shipments, so when it detects a substantial change in ETA and a new mother vessel — it triggers a rolled cargo alert.

For example, let’s say you had a shipment booked into Long Beach on the OOCL EGYPT, with ETA of October 15.

Then suddenly, we see two things:

  • The ETA changes to October 22, a 7-day delay

  • The vessel changes to the COSCO SHIPPING ALPS

That’s a rolled cargo event. Being notified early can mean the difference between frustrated or happy customers.

How do I set it up?

In one click, you can activate the standard Rolled Cargo Alert in one click.

Then if you want to customize the report further, you can configure this easily in Explore.

Activate it in one click

Go to the Notifications page, scroll down to the Incidents section, and click the Rolled Cargo Alert checkbox.

Select Exports Only if you want your alert to only focus on exports from North America.

Customize it further

In order to customize it, you can get the Explore version and change the columns and filters to suit your needs. Here’s how to do that.

Step 1: Save the template to My Reports

Click the button below to access the Split Cargo Alert template.

Click the Save button in the top right to save it to your My Reports folder. Feel free to customize it to your needs by changing the columns and filters.

Step 2: Activate the email notification

Click the Email button in the top right, then click the toggle to activate email notifications.

Set the frequency (daily, weekly…) and add recipients if you’d like others to receive this too.

Step 3: Focus on true exceptions only

Now instead of manually scanning for exceptions, you can let OpenTrack’s incident detection automatically surface potential incidents. By focusing on true exceptions only, you save time and energy to spend on more high-value tasks.
