The Ocean ETA that OpenTrack provides is an estimated berthing time at the terminal. As you know, many ocean carriers report ETAs only to the port anchorage area, and even when they do report an estimated berthing time it’s often inaccurate. So relying only on the ocean carrier isn’t enough.
In order to triangulate the most accurate ETA, we supplement ocean carrier data with some additional sources:
AIS data (like Vessel Finder or Marine Traffic)
Terminal Vessel Schedules
Statistical models of what has happened in the past for similar voyages (Carrier, Terminal, Port)
Human Intelligence (in some cases when our models are not sure, we have a human decide what the truth is)
Additionally, for Southern California we plan to add the Marine Exchange as an additional source in Q2 2022.
