Quick guide on adding additional fields to containers so you can keep track of key data points

If you're interested in adding additional fields to your containers, OpenTrack makes it easy to bring these data fields right into your visibility workflow.

With this feature you can:

  1. Enable custom fields in your account

  2. Add custom fields to a specific container through bulk upload, API, or manually

  3. Search for containers using any of the additional fields

  4. Filter containers using additional fields

  5. View the additional fields in the Explore view and container detail view

  6. Export containers with the additional fields

The first step of adding additional fields to your containers starts with enabling them in your account.

If you've done this already, you can skip to adding or editing additional fields on your containers.

How do I enable additional fields for my account?

If you are a Manager of your team's OpenTrack account, you can enable additional fields right in your dashboard. Here's how:

  1. Click Settings

  2. Click Additional Fields

  3. Select as many fields as you need.

Not seeing an additional field you want? Reach out to us to enable a new custom field for your account.

How do I add data for these additional fields to my containers?

You can add additional field data to your containers in any one of three ways:

  1. Bulk upload

  2. API

  3. Manual edit in the UI

What types of additional fields can I add?

Want the full list? Log into the OpenTrack web app, go to Settings, and click Additional Fields.

Example: Adding PO numbers to containers

To add PO numbers to containers, just bulk upload a spreadsheet with these columns:

Master Bill

Container ID

Carrier SCAC Code

poNumber

MAEU123456

ABCD123456

ABCD234567

PO234567

Can I add and view data for additional fields via API?

Yes! If the field is enabled for your account, then you can add data to the field by including it in your API request. Here's how.
