The new Domestic Rail Dashboard provides a comprehensive view of your domestic rail shipments, helping teams monitor availability, identify bottlenecks, and analyze performance across origin and destination ramps.
Instead of manually tracking shipments or building reports, the dashboard surfaces real-time and historical insights to support better planning and faster decision-making.
What the Domestic Rail Dashboard Shows
The dashboard is organized into three key sections:
Plan
Monitor
Measure
Each section helps teams answer different operational questions across the shipment lifecycle.
Plan: ETN Availability Calendar
The ETN Availability Calendar provides a forward-looking view of when containers are expected to become available at final rail facilities.
This view is based on OpenTrack’s Estimated Time of Notification (ETN) predictions and is displayed in 6-hour time blocks to support more precise planning.
What You Can See
Predicted container availability by destination ramp
Time-bucketed availability windows (6-hour increments)
Volume of containers expected to become available
How to Use It
Plan drayage and pickup scheduling more accurately
Align warehouse appointments with expected availability
Anticipate workload across facilities
This allows teams to move from reactive pickup coordination to proactive planning.
Monitor: Live Dwelling by Ramp
The Monitor section provides real-time visibility into containers currently dwelling at both origin and destination rail ramps.
Live Dwelling at Origin
Tracks containers that have ingated but not yet departed on rail.
Use cases:
Identify delays before rail departure
Detect congestion at origin ramps
Monitor pre-departure dwell time
Live Dwelling at Destination
Tracks containers that are available but have not yet been outgated.
Use cases:
Identify containers at risk of extended dwell
Prioritize pickups based on dwell duration
Reduce demurrage and storage risk
Containers are grouped into dwell time buckets:
Less than 12 hours
12 to 24 hours
24 to 48 hours
Greater than 48 hours
This helps teams quickly identify which containers require immediate attention.
Measure: Rail Performance Analytics
The Measure section provides historical analytics to evaluate rail performance and identify trends over time.
Domestic Rail Transit Time by Lane
Breaks down average transit time across key rail lanes, segmented by journey stages:
Ingate to departed
Rail transit
Arrived to available
Available to outgate
Use cases:
Identify slow or inconsistent rail lanes
Benchmark carrier performance
Improve routing and planning decisions
Origin and Destination Dwell by Ramp
Provides aggregated dwell time analysis across ramps.
Origin Dwell
Time between ingate and rail departure
Destination Dwell
Time between availability and outgate
Use cases:
Identify facilities with consistent delays
Monitor dwell trends over time
Improve operational planning and resource allocation
Key Benefits
Using the Domestic Rail Dashboard helps teams:
Improve pickup and drayage planning with ETN-based forecasts
Quickly identify containers at risk of extended dwell
Reduce manual tracking and reporting
Gain visibility into rail performance across lanes and facilities
Make faster, data-driven operational decisions
How It Fits Into Your Workflow
The Domestic Rail Dashboard is designed to complement shipment-level tracking by providing a higher-level operational view.
Teams can:
Use the Plan section to anticipate availability
Use the Monitor section to take action on current shipments
Use the Measure section to improve long-term performance
