Thanks to our comprehensive rail coverage, you can view all your containers’ rail sightings, right inside OpenTrack.

This works for intermodal/international rail, origin rail, and even domestic rail moves.

You can now view rail sightings the Rails Sightings tab of the container detail panel, making it easy to track your container's progress along its rail journey.

Just click on any container and navigate to the Rail Sightings tab.

Get sightings via API

You can access rail sightings via OpenTrack's API in two different ways:

  1. Subscribe to container.location.updated Webhook events to get real-time updates when OpenTrack gets a new location for the container.

  2. Use the Map Routes API to receive the full historical path of rail sightings, as well as the current location and future predicted route. Click here to learn more about the Map Routes API.

Monitor progress more easily

Regular rail sightings are crucial indicators of smooth shipment progress. They help you:

  • Monitor your shipment's movement in real-time

  • Identify potential delays early

This feature complements our existing Rail Dashboard visualizations, such as No Spottings in 48 Hours, providing proactive notice of potential issues so you can stay ahead.
